CELEBRATE THE DAWNING OF THE YEAR OF THE RAT,
WITH A RANGE OF EXCITING FREE EVENTS ACROSS THE CITY.
FEATURING TRADITIONAL CHINESE PERFORMANCES, ARTS ACTIVITIES
AND DAZZLING FILM 7 FIREWORK EXTRAVAGANZA!
Sunday 26th January: procession and performance
The procession starts at 2:30pm at De Montfort University, by the Big Screen near the Queens Building LE2 7DR.
From there it will travel down The Gateway to The Newark, through Castle Gardens onto Castle Street, then down onto Southgates, over to Peacock Lane, through Jubilee Square to the Clock Tower and Humberstone Gate.
Finally it will arrive at 4.30pm for a finale performance in Market Square. There will be a vibrant array of large-scale beautiful artwork, costumes, music and traditional Chinese dragon leading the procession.
The dazzling, spectacular finale performance in Market Square will feature well-known DJ Guohan Yang from China, playing current Chinese music. Beautiful projected animation by Vent Media, plus a Lion Dance and firework display.
Friday 31st January: Chinese activities at LCB Depot's #Last Friday event
Running from 5 - 10pm, the event will feature the usual mix of music, art, comedy and great street food, plus:
• Performances by ITSWA throughout the day of the famous Lion Dance
• The Confucius Institute will be delivering series of performances and free traditional Chinese crafts workshops including calligraphy, paper cutting and Chinese traditional games.
Saturday 1st February: a day of activities and performances at New Walk Museum
From 11am - 4pm, our stage in the Victorian Gallery at New Walk Museum will include:
• Acrobats performances from JiangXi Acrobats Troupe currently touring the UK, Jiangxi province, China, will add a touch of elegance and style, with their wonderful traditional acrobatic routines
• Nationally renowned magician Zhu Hui Ling from London will perform breathtaking tricks
• The amazing and extremely talented group Euphoria, will perform traditional Chinese music
• Storytelling and shadow puppets performance in Victorian Gallery and workshops in Lord Mayor's Room, from nationally renowned Ling Peng, a Nottingham based professional Chinese artist.
• The Chinese Whisperers, a traditional Chinese band from China, will perform live throughout the day.
• Performances by ITSWA throughout the day of the famous Lion Dance and martial arts
• Amazing professional Chinese singer from London, Kong Fan Chang
•The Confucius Institute will be delivering series of performances and free traditional Chinese crafts workshops including; calligraphy, paper cutting, Chinese traditional games, traditional costumes, and food.

MUSEUM LISTINGS
Saturday 8th February: performances on our Humberstone Gate stage
An eclectic range of performances from 11am - 4:30pm, including:
• Traditional Chinese dancer Dudan will perform a beautiful traditional dance
• Nationally renowned magician Zhu Hui Ling from London, will perform breathtaking tricks
• The Chinese Whisperers, a traditional Chinese band from China, who will perform live throughout the day
• Euphoria, a traditional Chinese instrument band, will be showcasing a variety of Chinese music styles
• Throughout the day, there will be performances by ITSWA, who specialise in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan, Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Qigong, and Lion Dance Arts
• Amazing professional Chinese singer from London, Kong Fan Chang
• There will be a range of exciting traditional singing, dance, and martial arts performances on stage throughout the day - too many to list - from the Confucius Institute
• The Confucius Institute will also be delivering a series of free traditional Chinese crafts workshops including calligraphy, paper cutting, Chinese traditional games, traditional costumes and food

All of these family friendly events are free, so come along to celebrate the Year of the Rat with the South East Asian community and learn about their beautiful and fascinating culture - it promises to be a great season of celebrations.
